John Maher

John Maher was born in Dublin in 1954. He has won many awards for his writing, among them the Francis McManus Short Story award (R.T.E Radio), the P.J. O'Connor Radio Play award (R.T.E Radio), the Marianne Pallotti fellowship to the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, California, and the Lar Cassidy Award Memorial Award. His stories have been broadcast on both R.T.E. Radio and the BBC. He has also published a collection of short stories, The Coast of Malabar (1988), and three novels.

John has taken up residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the McDowell Colony, New Hampshire. He is currently Visiting Research Fellow in the Dept of Middle East and Mediterranean Studies at King's College, London. He has three children and lives in a small town in Ireland.

John is in the process of completing his fourth novel, When the Sun Bursts, with an Arts Council of Ireland Bursary in Literature.
