Louise Sharland

Originally from Montreal, Louise moved to the UK thirty years ago after falling in love with a British sailor. She began writing short fiction, and in 2010 won the Woman & Home Magazine Short Story Competition. Her entry Black Rock was subsequently published as part of an anthology, The Best Little Book Club in Town (Orion 2011), alongside writers such as Ruth Rendell, Jodi Picoult and Lee Child. In 2019 she won the Big Issue Crime Writing Competition and a two-book deal with Avon Books. Her novels The Lake (2021) and My Husband’s Secrets (2022), were both published to 4.5 and 5* reviews. Her most recent novels Vengeance Street and Being Dead is Easy (published by Bloodhound Books 2024 and 2025 respectively), are part of a series based around gutsy Probation Officer Grace Midwinter and her commitment to justice no matter what the cost. Fascinated with exploring ideas and themes around why good people do bad things. Louise’s experience working with people who have experienced homelessness, addiction and imprisonment, gives her work strong humanitarian and social justice themes. Above all, she wants to tell a story that is entertaining, thought provoking and well written.
